Dr. Juan J. Cayaffa Honored for Accomplishments in Medical Education
Cambridge Who's Who recognizes Dr. Juan J. Cayaffa for 54 years of continued excellence

CHICAGO, IL, June 5, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Juan J. Cayaffa, Director of Postgraduate Courses in Basic Sciences in Neurology (Retired) for the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership, and excellence in all aspects of medical education.

Throughout his 54-year career, Dr. Cayaffa taught basic sciences in neurology. His career in higher education lasted 40 years before retiring, and still continues to this day, teaching neuron-anatomy to the residents, organizing a course on neurosciences, and writing numerous booklets on the subject to help the residents pass their board examination. Year after year, Dr. Cayaffa has received the "Residents Appreciation Award." In addition, he has been a lecturer in neuron-anatomy for neurology and neurosurgery residents at the old "Center for Higher Education," then at the "Chicago Review Course in Neurological Surgery," for which he has received the "Bucy Award." Dr. Cayaffa speaks five languages, English, French, Spanish, Italian and German and also reads Portuguese and Latin. During his school and high school years he studied piano and theory of music in private Conservatories.

Dr. Cayaffa completed his fellowship in electroencephalography and his residency at the Neurology Department (Dr. Benjamin Boshes, Chairman) at the Northwestern University Medical School. He received his MD from the University of Montevideo, Uruguay (Gold Medalist and Summa Cum Laude). During his pregraduate years he was student assistant at the Institute of Physiological Sciences, working in anatomy and physiology. His postgraduate training included a fellowship in physiology and a residency in internal medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in Paris: In neuroanatomy, in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Andre Delmas, at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Paris, and in neurology in the department of Neurology directed by Prof. Dr. Raymond Garcin at the Salpêtrière Hospital. In the past, Dr. Cayaffa participated in numerous research projects and publications. He was a member of the American Neurological Association and the American Medical Association. A supporter of music and art, he contributes to the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is a frequent visitor of various European musical events, especially the Wagnerian Festival in Beyreuth.
