Priscilla Santayana Honored for Excellence in Clinical Education and Nursing
Priscilla Santayana is an accomplished healthcare professional with 47 years of clinical education and nursing experience.
Las Vegas, NV, July 18, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Priscilla Santayana, a retired clinical educator and registered nurse, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in clinical education and nursing.
An accomplished healthcare professional, Mrs. Santayana has an overall total of forty seven (47) years of clinical education and nursing experience. She spent six years teaching in two (2) colleges of nursing in the Philippines and all the rest as staff development, employee education and clinical educator in various facilities. As staff development instructor, Mrs. Santayana was at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Medical Center in New York City for almost sixteen (16) years, a year-and-a-half at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas and at the University Medical Center, Las Vegas, Nevada for over nine (9) years. Her expertise is in medical/surgical nursing, which includes nursing orientation, inservices for registered nurses and certified nursing attendants and co-coordinating continuing education programs and skill fairs. For much of her distinguished career, Ms. Santayana acted as a mentor to new graduates and other professional nurses in preparing for the National Council licensure and certification examinations and serving as a consultant to registered nurses and ancillary personnel.
Mrs. Santayana received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Philippine Women's University in 1969 and a Master of Education from the University of the Philippines in 1975. She is a certified basic life support instructor through the American Heart Association and a certified medical/surgical nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She was president of the Philippine Nurses Association of New York for two terms, and is currently a member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Nevada, the Philippine Nurses Association of America, and the University of the Philippines Alumni of America.
Mrs. Santayana is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award (1994) awarded by the Philippine American Communities Executive Council of the Eastern Seaboard and the Nursing Excellence Award from St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center. In 1993, her name was submitted for selection as one of the NY State Legislature's 1993 Nurse of Distinction recognition. She was also the first Asian American to receive the New York Governor's Award in 1993.
Currently, she is mentoring nursing students and new graduates who are preparing to take the NCLEX exam. She also is involved in the wellness industry, promoting healthy (Kangen) water that originated in Japan and was introduced to the U.S. five years ago.
