Dr. Linda Bacon, Nutrition Professor, Researcher and Author of the internationally acclaimed book, Health At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight will join NAAFA's first HAES Summit

OAKLAND, CA, July 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- NAAFA is honored to announce that Dr. Linda Bacon, Nutrition Professor, Researcher and Author of the internationally acclaimed book, Health At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight will join the first NAAFA HAES Summit to be held on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the San Francisco Airport Westin Hotel in Millbrae, California.

Dr. Bacon will participate in the first morning session entitled 'When the Headlines Don't Match the Data', moderated by Dr. Deb Burgard, psychologist and HAES Expert. Dr. Bacon will join Nutritionist Emeritus Joanne Ikeda from the University of California, Berkeley and Assistant Professor, Friedrich Schorb from the University of Bremen, Germany.

This session will review the problems to look for in obesity studies and examine their inherent bias against fat people. Other sessions will focus on the next generation of HAES leaders, strategies to incorporate HAES into various health disciplines and a review of going beyond the HAES definition into action through the new academic discipline of Fat Studies.

The summit will wrap up with a Poster Session & Market place of Ideas, where HAES professionals and representatives from HAES based organizations will be featured. This venue will welcome attendees to network, exchange ideas, share materials and resources.
