Maria Elena Tostado honored for nearly 50 years of contributions to the field of academics

SAN FERNANDO, CA, April 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria Elena Tostado, Department Chairwoman for Phillips Graduate Institute, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education administration.

With nearly 50 years of practiced expertise in the education field, Maria Elena Tostado has achieved professional success through her specialty in education administration. For the past eight years of her career, she has dedicated her services to Phillips Graduate Institute as a Department Chairwoman. She is currently responsible for providing instruction on school counseling and child welfare. Over the course of her career, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal and lead principal.

Born to a family of teachers, it was only natural for Ms. Tostado to pursue a career in academics. She credits her success to her own educational background as well as the support of her parents and mentors. During a candid interview with a representative from Cambridge Publishing, she recalled a particularly momentous time during her career. She made the bold choice to hire 25 former students to teach in the school district - an experience that lead to an extensive amount of public exposure and even warranted an interview in The Los Angeles Times.

Ms. Tostado holds a master of arts in teaching mathematics and chemistry from Saint Mary's College and a master of science in school administration from Pepperdine University. A graduate of California Lutheran University, she earned a master of arts in school counseling and a master of science in psychology. Her professional affiliations include the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles, the California Association of School Counselors, Inc., the American School Counselor Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
