Donald W. Swoboda Honored for 42 Years of Dedication to Higher Education
Donald W. Swoboda, Founding Dean of Western Kentucky University's Division of Extended Learning and Outreach
BOWLING GREEN, KY, September 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Donald W. Swoboda, Dean of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach Program at Western Kentucky University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
In the last 42 years, Donald W. Swoboda has risen to prominence in the field of higher education — recognized as an authority in leadership development and nonprofit university administration. He now thrives as the Dean of Extended Learning and Outreach at Western Kentucky University, responsible for overseeing all of its operations across three regional campuses. Such activities include those pertaining to continuing education, professional development, event planning, independent learning, the Contract Learning Project, the Dual Credit Program, marketing and business management, as well as online programs and winter and summer semesters. Lauded for his many accomplishments in this function, Mr. Swoboda regards his development of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach Program - from conception to actualization - to be the highlight of his career.
For the achievements and honors he has garnered over the last four decades, Mr. Swoboda credits his supportive network of family, friends and colleagues. Individuals earning special recognition include his father, who imparted on him a strong value system and the idea that one can and should dream and hope. His father instilled in him a positive attitude, a healthy outlook on life and a committed work ethic. He also helped him to accept God as his personal savior; today, Mr. Swoboda believes his father to be the hero of his life, the one who showed him unconditional love. Also of important mention is the late Dr. Arlen Lutz, who saw his potential and mentored him in his career; Dr. Baraburch gave him the opportunity and support to develop the outreach program at Western Kentucky University. Moving forward, Mr. Swoboda will seek to draw from these sources of strength to become a consultant in continuing education.
Mr. Swoboda holds a Ph.D. in adult and continuing education, a master's degree in agricultural education and a bachelor's degree in agriculture, economics and business from the University of Nebraska. An active member of his professional community, he maintains affiliations with the following organizations: Kentucky Association for Continuing Higher Education, Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce (board member), University Council for Educational Administration, Association for Continuing Higher Education, University Continuing Education Association, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, The University of Continuing Education Association.
