Mojca Remskar Konia, MD, Ph.D., Lauded for Contributions to Anesthesiology
Dr. Mojca Remskar Konia has found success in both the United States and her home country of Slovenia
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, May 4, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Mojca Remskar Konia, Anesthesiologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology of the University of Minnesota, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in anesthesiology.
Descended from a family of health care practitioners, Dr. Konia embarked on her own medical career 14 years ago. She has since acquired an expertise in cardiac anesthesiology, which today she brings to the University of Minnesota. Entrusted with a combination of clinical and instructional tasks, she assists in heart, lung and vascular surgery for pediatric and adult patients, teaches students and residents using simulators, and directs residency and simulation perioperative resources for training and learning programs.
Dr. Konia joined the university in 2008 and quickly made her mark on its anesthesiology department with her calm demeanor, commitment to education and development of excellent programs. She has made great strides in the creation of a diverse simulation laboratory experience and has worked hard on the assimilation of echocardiography training into the program. She has also conducted research on instant restenosis and myocardial preconditioning. More than an academician, an educator and a superb clinician, Dr. Konia is known as a friend and mentor to residents — a reputation that has been enforced by awards for teaching excellence from both the University of Minnesota and the University of California Davis Medical Center.
A native of Slovenia, Dr. Konia holds an MD, a Ph.D. in cardiology and a Master of Science in cardiology from the University of Ljubljana. She completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesiology in 2007, a chief residency in anesthesiology in 2006, and a residency in anesthesiology in 2005, all at the University of California Davis Medical Center. Additionally, she completed an internship in surgery in 2003 at Jackson Memorial Medical Center, a residency in internal medicine and critical care in 2002 at University Medical Centre Ljubljana, a fellowship in cardiology in 2000 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and an internship in 1997 at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.
Dr. Konia maintains affiliations with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists. She also travels regularly with Rotaplast International, Inc., performing cleft lip and palate procedures for children around the world. Proud of the success that she has achieved in both the United States and her home country, Dr. Konia looks forward to continuing her personal and professional growth.
