Evalina Burger, M.Med, MD, Recognized for Excellence in Spine Care
Dr. Burger was the first female Orthopedic Surgeon in South Africa to be awarded the prestigious ABC Traveling Fellowship
AURORA, CO, July 14, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Evalina Burger, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in spine care.
With 17 years of professional experience, Dr. Burger is a distinguished spine surgeon who specializes in adult deformity and reconstruction. She has served as an associate professor of orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine since 2006. Dr. Burger also serves as a vice chair at The Spine Center at the University of Colorado Hospital. In this role, she oversees the clinical care of patients with complex spinal disorders and handles the clinic's finances, recruitment and appointments.
Dr. Burger studied spinal surgery at the University of Pretoria after earning an MD at the University of the Orange Free State in South Africa. After becoming board-certified in orthopedic surgery, she relocated to the United States. Dr. Burger's research and clinical skills have been recognized internationally. She was presented with the Thomas Whitecloud Award for Best Basic Science Paper at the International Meeting of Advanced Spinal Techniques in 2010, and in 2000 was the first female to be awarded the South African Orthopaedic Society's prestigious ABC Traveling Fellowship. Dr. Burger is affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
